T1 line

T1 Line

A T1 line can be the solution to many of your needs.

Whether you are looking for voice, data, or integrated service, there are a variety of options to choose from.

On the data side, a T1 gives you 1.5 MB of bandwidth up and down. This means you are getting dedicated service with the same speed for uploads as you are getting for downloads.

Dedicated service means you are not sharing your bandwidth with anybody else. You paid for the 1.5 and that is what you will get.

This is in comparison to DSL, where you might be told you will get up to 3MB in bandwidth, but because it is a shared connection, you may not even come close to reaching that speed.

When we say shared connection, we are referring to any and all of your neighbors that may have DSL as well all going to the same source for their internet connectivity.

A data T1 does not have any limitations on distance. If you want have a remote office hundreds away from anyone else, and you need service, that is not a problem.

On the voice side of things, a t1 line can offer savings over your existing phone lines.

A voice T1 will let you have up to 24 channels that you can use for voice calls. They can be broken out into 24 analog lines if you desire that many.

There is a certain point, usually around 12-14 phone lines, where it becomes more cost effective to have a voice t1 line in stead of paying for those 12-14 lines.

You can also have what are called DID numbers letting every extension get their own specific number. One T1 can have hundreds or thousands of DID numbers. However, because there are 24 channels, you can only have 24 concurrent calls at the same time.

A T1 line can also come as integrated service. This means you can have both voice and data on the same circuit.

Voice lines can either be broken out as analog, PRI, or SIP. An integrated T1 gives you a variety of options to choose how you want to use your service.

Most integrated T1 today are dynamic T1's where they are IP based meaning they use the internet for both voice and data. Even a dynamic based T1 line can be broken out into analog lines.

With a dynamic product when nobody is on the phone, there is 1.5 MB of bandwidth available. When someone picks up a phone, they use up a bit of that bandwidth. With compression, the amount of bandwidth being used on a voice call is minimal, so this is really a good option to choose if you have both voice and data needs.

As you can see, when it comes to T1, there is a lot of information and a lot of choices and we've only touched upon the service.
